Hillsville Puppy Mill
12/16/2008
VA PAWS wishes to thank everyone involved in the Hillsville, Virginia operation, especially the people of Carroll County for their overwhelming support in this effort. Over 700 dogs were rescued from this facility in early November. An investigation has been ongoing.

Adults and puppies were transferred to shelters across the east coast that could care for them medically and emotionally. They will be placed in forever homes when they are ready. Many have already been placed though some shelters still struggle to find the best homes for the most severely neglected dogs.

Update - January 31, 2008: Lanzie Carroll Horton, Jr., operator of Horton’s Pups in Hillsville, VA been officially charged with 14 counts of animal cruelty (Class 1 misdemeanor), 25 counts of neglect (Class 3 misdemeanor), and 1 count of failure to have proper licensure (Class 4 misdemeanor).
